Remnant II: How to Avoid Negative Trait Point Save File Corruption

You should fix your crashing issue as soon as possible to prevent Remnant 2 from corrupting your save file. Corrupted save files seems to be a regular and known bug that’s happening quite a lot which triggers the negative trait point issue. If this is a deal breaker for you, try taking a break from the game for a week or two or until Gunfire Games makes a fix.

YOU need disconnect FIRST to properly save BEFORE the host does.

Based on the popup box, it seems that the game just cuts the connection, it doesn’t go through the correct steps of saving and then disconnecting you. It appears “Network Connection Lost” is different from “The host has closed their connection, saving game.” verbiage. Network connection loss seems to be the main culprit that causes this bug among everything else cause it has a decent change of corrupting your game file. This has already happened to me twice.

I would honestly AVOID playing in public matches. The hosts typically kick you repeatedly or like the above, the connection cuts and it doesn’t save. So if you can disconnect first before they boot you, that would be the best bet for now.

Exit to main menu BEFORE you exit the application to ensure the game saves properly versus just exiting and screwing itself over.

Everytime you get disconnected, check your trait points IMMEDIATELY. If it’s corrupted, get your backup file and go back to either the earliest backup or latest, your pick.

Replace both profile AND the save game by deleting your current .sav files and renaming the profile and save_# ending extensions to .sav.

Until Devs implement a fix, it seems that this is a regular thing until they’ve got it all figured out.
